George Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation

Worldly Saints

The Thursday feature of the Worldly Saints blog will be sharing of a media clip (audio or video) that has either educated, equipped, provoked or entertained us in some way.

President George Washington proclaimed Thursday, November 26, 1789 as a day of “public thanksgiving and prayer” devoted to “the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be.”

Later President Abraham Lincoln put this holiday into Law during the Civil War.

Watch the below video, as this original proclamation from Pres. Washington is read. I am thankful to the Lord for directing the President to such words.

Happy Thanksgiving!
