At Christmas time we preachers seem almost obligated to preach on the Christmas story but some do not consider all the accounts of Jesus’ birth.  There is of course Matthew which in many respects considers the birth of Jesus from the point of view of Joseph.  It records his struggles and decisions as he first agrees to take Mary as his wife, leads the family to escape in Egypt when the Magi unwittingly set of Herod’s wrath and then guides his family back to Nazareth.  The account in Luke is much more Mary’s side of things.  Her family background, he decisions and her wonder at the things that happen and are told to her are faithful recorded probably from her own testimony of Luke.  What most Christians do not consider as part of the Christmas story is John’s account.  In many ways, john give the theological perspective or perhaps even…
